Course name:
Signalong Foundation Course.
About Signalong:
Over the last 25 years, Signalong The Communication Charity has published the widest range of signs in Britain. Each sign is drawn and described using a consistent method that enables people to look-up and perform new signs independently, without expert support. Signalong is key-word signing using the signs from British Sign Language (BSL). The signs are used in spoken word order (while speaking) and only the most important words (which express the meaning) are signed.
Signalong enables communication for people of all ages who have Speech, Language and Communication Needs (SLCN) or learning disabilities. The charity is committed to empowering all people to understand and express their needs, choices and opinions by providing vocabulary for life and learning. Signalong courses are only delivered by Signalong Tutors, who are trained and registered by the charity, and who attend regular conferences to ensure their continuing professional development.

Course description:
The Foundation Course is the most popular Signalong course. It provides participants with the knowledge and skills to use key-word signing, and with the tools to independently locate, learn and use any sign from the Signalong database. Over 300 signs are explicitly taught and practised, and the training focuses on building participants’ confidence to sign as they speak with the people they support. This course includes elements of communication theory, is CPD accredited, certificated by Signalong The Communication Charity and is mapped against the Speech, Language and Communication Framework (Universal and Enhanced competencies). Full certification requires participants to attend every session and pass a short assessment.
